Remembering Challenge Front-Runners Who Were Eliminated At The 11th Hour

For every Cinderella Challenge story to take shape, a force of nature must fall. And on the most recent episode of All Stars Season 2, the odds-on favorites to win the complete shebang were ousted at the last second immediately after a Arena game that would have made anyone’s palms sweat.

Brad and Jodi, aka “Brodi,” who spent most of the game way out in first place, proved they weren’t quite untouchable soon after “Make the Connection,” which challenged partnerships to jump from moving truck to moving truck to gather keys, open boxes and secure an assigned idol.

Brad made the mistake of ripping the tops off of boxes rather than untying ropes that kept them sealed and, as consequence, he and Jodi were sentenced to The Arena against allies Darrell and Janelle, who were voted in by the day’s winners, Nehemiah and Melinda.

“Oh, how the mighty have fallen,” Jodi mentioned ahead of “Smash House.” Unfortunately, she and Brad had even further to fall.

The final All Stars elimination round challenged partnerships to wreck rooms filled with cinder blocks, furniture and tchotchkes and slip discarded pieces through a series of small holes. Whatever team amassed the most weight in 10 minutes would win, and right after an evaluation that left players biting their nails, Darrell and Janelle were declared the winners, effectively ousting the game’s most powerful duo by only two pounds.

“To come all this way and to fight so hard and to not make it to the Final — it was just all for nothing,” Jodi cried.

However Brad and Jodi definitely weren’t the initial front-runners to just miss out on championship Challenge cash.

maybe the most memorable elimination of a finale-favorite was Landon’s at the hands of Brad on Duel II. Landon, who racked up most of the game’s wins, infamously walked out of the room while in the final Duel voting ceremony, at which point the game’s other males secretly voted him into “Back Off.” Johnny Bananas, one of very few players with more wins than Landon, was shockingly ousted at the last second on Battle of the Sexes II as a consequence of Sarah and Jordan’s emergency power play. And Darrell, a likewise stacked titan, notoriously missed out on the finale of Invasion of the Champions by an inch, as did the game’s toughest woman, Laurel, who suffered her very first elimination loss right before the game’s end.

Derrick, a decorated champion in his own right, was a preference on Gauntlet II, collecting win right after win as Team Captain only to be ousted at the last second by Timmy in “Reverse Tug-of-War.” The trend would woefully continue for Derrick alongside Diem on Fresh Meat, and, later, because the last man ousted from Cutthroat.

However any time it comes to numerous heartbreakers, nobody is aware the routine better than CT. The Spies, Lies and Allies champion was the last man eliminated on The Duel, Rivals and Free Agents, three seasons he may have very likely won if he’d survived to the games’ ends.

Jenna on Dirty Thirty, Johnny and Tony on Final Reckoning, Paula on Cutthroat: Missing out on the final as a preference has proven to be just as much a segment of the game as scorecards or prize cash.
